The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly working another quarterback out this week following their trading of Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Niners have a healthy QB room to start the season, with Brock Purdy their No. 1 option while Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen are their third and second. Still, they’re hosting former fourth-round pick Ian Book today, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Book, who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2021, spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles after making a single start as a rookie. He didn’t appear in any games for the Eagles in 2022.
The QB’s one game as a starter saw him throw for 135 yards and two interceptions on 12-of-20 passing in a loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Given that they have three QBs on the roster, the Niners don’t need Book. This has led some fans to suspect that they’re only working him out to learn the Eagles playbook ahead of their matchup in December.
Whatever the case may be, he would do well to impress them as you just never know.

San Francisco is also well aware that they can never have too many quarterbacks given what happened to them against Philadelphia during the NFC Championship Game last season.
