The Los Angeles Chargers are getting set to begin life without Philip Rivers being under center for the first time in sixteen years.
One person who seems excited about the change is Hunter Henry who is ready for the offense to change up a whole lot.
Via NBC Sports:
“I’m not going to downplay Philip at all,” Henry said about the Chargers, via Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times. “He was unreal and a Hall of Fame quarterback. But, obviously, it opens our offense up a little bit more. You see all these quarterbacks, their escapability in the pocket. . . . [There are] so many different things that you can do with a mobile quarterback that can open your offense. [I’m] looking forward to seeing that aspect of our offense grow.”
Rivers was always good with his arm, able to make just about every throw possible, but he was never known as a QB who was dangerous with his legs.
The Chargers are now left with Tyrod Taylor as the only viable starter on the roster, but it should also be noted they may have already picked their QB of the future when they selected Justin Herbert with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Both QB’s give the Chargers a massive boost in mobility at the quarterback position.
Quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, and Lamar Jackson are dominating with both their arms and legs as the NFL continues to evolve at the position.
