The Houston Texans are bringing back a former All-Pro defensive back.
On Monday, the Texans announced that they have signed veteran cornerback Desmond King II back to their practice squad. King was on the Texans from 2021 to 2022 and went unsigned here in 2023 before landing back with the AFC South club.
The Iowa product was a fifth-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017. King had his best season in 2018, earning All-Pro nods after helping the Chargers to 12 wins and a trip to the AFC Divisional Round.
Houston’s defense has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround under first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. The Texans enter Week 12 in a playoff spot with a 6-4 record, having already surpassed their win totals from 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The Texans’ defense has allowed just 20.8 points per game (14th in the league), a noticeable improvement from a group that finished 27th in scoring D a year ago (24.7 points allowed per contest).
King, who turns 29 years of age next month, has nine interceptions, 33 pass defenses, seven fumble recoveries and 8.5 sacks. In his first two seasons with the Texans, King totaled five interceptions, 14 pass defenses, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
