The Deshaun Watson trade machine got going on Saturday night after the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams pulled a mega trade of two quarterbacks.
The Lions traded franchise QB Matt Stafford to the Rams in exchange for Jared Goff. Detroit also got the Rams’ first-round draft picks in 2022 and 2023, and a third-round pick in 2021.
It begged the question on what the Texans could possibly get after the haul the Lions got for Stafford.
Texans insider John McClain seems to know what the Texans want for the three-time Pro Bowler, so he dropped some information on Twitter:
“The Rams-Lions trade will have nothing to do with a Watson trade if the Texans do it. They’ll want 2 ones, 2 twos and 2 young defensive starters, at the least. Watson, 25, under contract, great QB, team leader, beloved by fans, pillar of the community. Start with the Jets.”
As you see, he mentioned the New York Jets, but Watson has a no-trade clause and can essentially choose which team he likes and stop any trade the Texans try to pull off if he does not want to go there.

The Jets have four first-round picks over the next two seasons as well as defensive stars. A young QB will most certainly have to come in any trade, so Sam Darnold would be on the move.
As of right now, the Texans have publicly stated that they have zero interest in trading Watson, but this is coming from a franchise that suddenly traded WR DeAndre Hopkins.
