The Houston Texans have brought in a Pro Bowl wideout to bolster the offense after losing Tank Dell for the season on Saturday.
Today, the Texans announced that Tank Dell will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated kneecap in Saturday’s road loss to the Houston Texans. Dell suffered the injury after making a beautiful touchdown grab in the Chiefs’ 27-19 loss.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Texans have acted quickly and claimed former Baltimore Ravens wideout Diontae Johnson off waivers. He has 31 receptions for 363 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games, split with the Ravens and Carolina Panthers.
The move comes just days after Baltimore waived the ex-Pittsburgh Steelers star following a disastrous four-game tenure with the organization. The Ravens agreed to send Johnson home last week before making the decision to waive him.

Tank Dell’s season-ending injury comes eight weeks after Houston lost fellow star wideout Stefon Diggs for 2024 with a torn ACL. They need more depth to complement Nico Collins, Joe Mixon and Dalton Schultz, so it’s worth taking a chance on Johnson.

The 2021 Pro Bowler racked up 107 receptions for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns in his breakout year. Though he hasn’t come close to those numbers since, Johnson exceeded the 80-catch and 800-yard marks in 2020 and 2022.
Pittsburgh traded Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in the offseason, but he was unable to establish any chemistry with Bryce Young. His tenure with the Ravens was even worse, but we’ll see if Johnson can regain his star-like form in Houston.
Tank Dell’s Injury Puts A Dent In Texans’ Title Hopes
Even before Dell was injured, the Texans didn’t resemble a championship contender like other AFC teams in the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens. The CJ Stroud-led offense provided some hope, but other skill position guys must step up without Dell if they’re to compete for a championship.
