Jimmy Garoppolo could soon be finding a home, and it will likely be one of the worst teams in the entire league.
The Houston Texans are expected to select a quarterback early in the 2023 NFL draft, but some people in the organization reportedly would like them to add the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.
Per CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, there is a “push within the building” for the Texans to sign Jimmy Garoppolo as a free agent and let whichever quarterback they draft “at some point in the first round” sit for a year to learn.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan already made it clear after the season that he doesn’t see “any scenario” in which Garoppolo returns to the team next season.
Jimmy G heading to the Texans would reunite him with head coach DeMeco Ryans, who was on San Francisco’s coaching staff every year Garoppolo was with the team. Texans also hired Bobby Slowik from the 49ers to be their offensive coordinator.
As far as the young QB they may draft, it will either be Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud who will be sitting their rookie year to eventually take over in 2024.

Jimmy G can certainly get paid by the Texans, but it will be up to him on whether he wants to play for a rebuilding team they won’t make any noise in 2023.
