When Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair answered questions from fans on Reddit back in September, he broke some news about jerseys.
A Redditor asked if the team had “any plans to do a jersey swap (especially for one particular player) for a free/discounted jersey of another player?”
“Yes, we will do this in October so stay tuned for details!,” McNair posted on Reddit.
Here we are in October and the Texans owner has delivered. On Monday, the Texans ownership announced a jersey swap-in plan, letting fans with Deshaun Watson No. 4 uniforms trade them in for a new jersey.
“It’s here. Fans asked. Mr. McNair delivered,” the Texans announced on Monday.

“Jerseys can be exchanged Monday, Oct. 10 – Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Houston Texans Team Shop at NRG Stadium.
Select NFL licensed player jerseys eligible for exchange include Texans players originally acquired during the 2017 – 2021 seasons who are no longer on the Texans’ roster.
Fans may exchange a Game, Limited or Elite jersey to receive 44% off a new jersey of the same style. Fans may also choose to exchange a Limited or Elite jersey for a Game jersey.”
Even though Watson was never mentioned by name, it is clear that this entire swap was about getting rid of his jersey.
Watson is currently still serving his 11-game suspension following accusations of sexual misconduct. Watson was accused of sexual assault and harassment by two dozen women while he played for the Houston Texans.
As part of the settlement, Watson may return for the Browns’ game on Dec. 4 in Houston.
