Our first controversy of the 2021 NFL season!
During the second quarter of tonight’s season opener between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys, a hot mic appeared to catch an official attempting to make up a penalty.
During a stoppage in play, after a flag had been thrown, one of the officials leaned in and began to tell another official, “Let’s just say…” That’s when he noticed he had left his mic on, causing him to stop and turn it off…
But not before the damage had been done.
The officials ended up calling offsetting penalties for taunting and unnecessary roughness on the Bucs Ryan Jensen and the Cowboys’ Carlos Watkins. That set the Bucs’ offense up with a first down from the Cowboys’ 24. Three plays later, Brady hit Gronk for a two-yard touchdown to give Tampa the 14-7 lead.
Cris Collinsworth wasn’t the only one who noticed the questionable exchange. Colts linebacker Darius Leonard even called out the officials on Twitter.
