Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson had an unreasonable request when he met up with quarterback Matthew Stafford ahead of the Lions’ playoff showdown vs the Rams on Sunday.
Johnson and Stafford were teammates in Detroit from 2009 to 2015 and formed one of the deadliest combinations in the league back then. So they were always going to share a moment when the quarterback returned for Sunday’s game at Ford Field.
Stafford ran out to a chorus of boos from the Lions crowd and headed straight for Johnson before they embraced. The former wideout was heard asking his old pal to help the Lions out by throwing a few interceptions.
“I need one or two from ya and I’m not talking about touchdowns,” he joked. “Love you man!”
As it happens, Johnson did not need any INTs from his former teammate as the Lions managed a marginal 24-23 victory without the QB making any turnovers or any significant mistakes.
While Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest players in Lions history, there was some bad blood between him and the team for several years. So it was great to see him campaigning for the team, with their relationship now on the mend.
