The NFL has banned plays or strategies for different reasons throughout its history. Sometimes it’s for safety reasons.
Oftentimes the league bans things just because it may be something they want to get rid of.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ “tush push” seems like a play that might ultimately get banned since one team cannot be stopped from doing it. The Eagles align with Hurts under center, with a couple of teammates right behind him. On the snap, Hurts sneaks it forward and gets pushed from behind by his teammates. Just about every time it’s a first down or a touchdown.
What is crazy is that no other team can do it quite like them nor can they stop the Eagles from doing it.
Lumberton High School linebacker Easton Stapleton i showing the country how it is done.
With the offense in a goal-line formation near the end zone, Stapleton leaped over the line of scrimmage and pulled a WWE-like move to stop the play.
The highlight play was posted by Stapleton’s defensive coordinator, Chase McDonald.

Incredible.
However, it would be increasingly hard to perfectly time your jump over the offensive line right before the snap.
The Eagles have added wrinkles to the play which makes it difficult to stop as they can run reverses, stretch plays, and pop passes off the tush push formation, giving the defense plenty to think about.
Basically, you might stop it once, but you won’t have continued success in doing so.
