Will the 49ers actually go through with trading Deebo Samuel as he requested? That is the question that will need answering as we get closer to the NFL Draft.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has been on top of Deebo Samuel’s story all month and he outlined how Deebo has an issue with his role and how “it’s affecting his football odometer.”
On Monday morning, Breer said it’s unlikely Samuel will get moved between now and Thursday but did present what the offer might be for the 49ers to even entertain such an idea.
“One rival GM said to me Sunday that he believes you’d probably have to go to John Lynch with two first-round picks, which would replace the 2022 and ’23 first-rounders the Niners dealt away last year to move up for Trey Lance, to wriggle Samuel free of San Francisco,” Breer wrote. “And that is a lot, even in comparison to the other big receiver trades of the early parts of this year.”
Earlier this month, Samuel scrubbed all mentions of the 49ers from social media. Last week, Samuel told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington that he officially requested a trade from the 49ers. The receiver is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and can become a free agent next offseason.

Samuel finished the 2021 season with 1,405 yards receiving and six touchdowns off 77 total receptions, plus rushed for 365 yards and eight touchdowns off 59 carries. The playmaker was a key part of the 49ers’ run to the NFC Championship Game, tallying 291 total yards and two touchdowns in three playoff games.
Samuel no doubt wants to get paid what he’s worth, but he also doesn’t want the type of workload the 49ers put him through during the 2021 season where he put up those gaudy numbers.
