Former Las Vegas Raiders player Henry Ruggs has been sentenced to at least three years in a Nevada prison for killing a woman in a fiery wreck in 2021 as he was driving 156 mph under the influence.
Ruggs could be eligible for parole after three years.
Ruggs had been under house arrest with alcohol and location electronic monitoring devices since pleading guilty in May to one count of DUI resulting in death and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. Despite his house arrest, he will not credit for that time when it comes to his sentence.
Tinta Tintor was killed in the crash. Ruggs issued an apology to her family in the courtroom.
Inside that courtroom was also a familiar face as Philadelphia Eagles WR Devonta Smith was excused from practice so he could show up and support his former college teammate.
One Crimson Tide fan decided to take notice of Smith showing up, but his tweet fell on deaf ears as social media ripped him apart.
“Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith missed practice today because he was in Las Vegas for Henry Ruggs’ sentencing,” wrote Twitter user Nick Perkins. “That Alabama brotherhood is different.”

Here’s how social media reacted:
Ruggs’ blood alcohol level was 0.161 – more than twice the legal limit in Nevada – when he decided to get behind the wheel of a car and take another person’s life.
Ruggs’ girlfriend, Kiara Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, was in the vehicle and was also injured in the collision. Tina Tintor’s Toyota RAV4 gas tank ruptured due to the crash, and she and her dog would burn to death in the aftermath.
The Raiders released Ruggs soon after the fatal crash. He was initially picked by the Raiders in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.
He only played 20 games for the franchise.
