Football players and coaches work countless hours at their profession, day in and day out, in hopes of one day being recognized for all that work with an induction to Canton.
On Saturday, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowherd realized that dream when he was given the shock of a lifetime on live television during CBS’s pregame show.
Prior to the Ravens-Titans Divisional Round matchup, Pro Football Hall of Fame president David Baker made a surprise appearance on the CBS pregame set to share the announcement with Cowherd and his colleagues.
The reaction from Bill says it all.
As part of the league’s centennial celebration, the NFL will be inducting a total of 20 new members. Five will consist of modern era players, ten will be senior members (players who have been retired for at least 25 years now), three contributors, and two coaches (including Cowherd).
Fourteen other inductees from the centennial class will be announced on January 15, while the five modern-era inductees will be introduced at the NFL Honors awards show on the eve of Super Bowl LIV.
