Philadelphia Eagles’ star linebacker Haason Reddick has decided to undergo surgery on a thumb injury so that he can be ready in time for Week 1.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news on Thursday, noting that the 28-year-old Reddick suffered the injury in practice on Monday.
Zach Berman of The Athletic also reported that the Eagles appear to be “confident” that Reddick will be ready for the regular season. The Eagles visit the New England Patriots in their season opener on Sept. 10.
Last offseason, the Eagles signed Reddick to a three-year deal worth $45 million. He turned in a career year last season, recording 16 sacks and a league-high five forced fumbles to go along with three pass defenses.
The 2017 first-round pick helped the Eagles to a Super Bowl 57 championship appearance, where they dropped a heartbreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs.
