Gregg Popovich has always been a man to call out Donald Trump, but now he is saving his dislike for him for some of his high-profiled supporters.
The San Antonio Spurs head coach is calling out Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and New England Patriots boss Robert Kraft for supporting President Donald Trump.
It was a total of seven NFL owners, including Jones and Kraft, gave $1 million to Trump’s Inaugural Committee.
Popovich spoke to Maureen Dowd of the New York Times and was asked about what he thinks about the fact that some NFL owners gave financial assistance to Trump, Coach Pop didn’t hold back.
“It’s just hypocritical,” Gregg Popovich replied. “It’s incongruent. It doesn’t make sense. People aren’t blind. Do you go to your staff and your players and talk about injustices and democracy and how to protest? I don’t get it. I think they put themselves in a position that’s untenable.”
“Especially if you’re a white coach and you’re coaching a group that’s largely Black, you’d better gain their trust, you’d better be genuine, you’d better understand their situation,” Popovich told the Times. “You’d better understand where they grew up. Maybe there’s a Black kid from a prep school. Maybe there’s another Black kid who saw his first murder when he was 7 years old.”

“A smart man is running the NFL and he didn’t understand the difference between the flag and what makes the country great,” Popovich said, adding, “The flag is irrelevant. It’s just a symbol people glom onto for political reasons.”
As far as the NBA season goes, Popovich and the Spurs are supposed to partake in the resumption of the 2019-20 season at Walt Disney World.
