The Green Bay Packers are 7-8 and currently outside the NFC playoff field with two weeks to go. The process of getting there was made even harder as one-star player will not be playing this week.
On Wednesday, the Packers announced that cornerback Jaire Alexander has been placed on the reserve/suspended list by the club for one game for conduct detrimental to the team.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction:
“The decision to suspend a player is never easy and not one we take lightly. Unfortunately, Jaire’s actions prior to the game in Carolina led us to take this step,” said Gutekunst. “As an organization, we have an expectation that everyone puts the team first. While we are disappointed, we had a good conversation with Jaire this morning and fully expect him to learn from this as we move forward together. We look forward to welcoming him back next week as he is a valued member of this team and will continue to be in the future.”
Alexander had just made his return after missing six games due to a shoulder injury.
The 26-year-old is the former 18th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Packers.

At 7-8, the Packers head into Week 17 of the 2023 season at the No. 10 spot in the NFC standings. The Packers will need to be perfect the rest of the regular season, and they’ll need help from other teams if they want to make the postseason.
The easiest path the Packers could create for themselves is to first win out and finish the regular season at 9-8. The Rams or Seahawks need to lose one game for things to work out their way.
In 2023, Alexander has appeared in six games for the Packers, recording 26 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, and four pass deflections.
