Early this morning it was reported that Davante Adams would not play under the franchise tag in 2022. The Green Bay Packers’ star wide receiver wants to get paid, and based on some of their latest moves, it appears as though the team has heard his plea loud and clear.
The Packers need to clear some cap space in order to pay one of their top players, and they took a big step in that direction with two big roster moves that were announced this morning.
According to reports, the Packers have cut ties with Pro Bowl pass rusher Za’Darius Smith and offensive tackle Billy Turner.
By releasing Smith, the Packers clear a whopping $15.2-million in cap space, while their decision to release Turner saves them another $4.25-million, according to Spotrac.

Those are two big holes on both sides of the ball that general manager Brian Gutekunst will have to fill. But in today’s NFL, cap flexibility is everything. And sometimes in order to achieve it, you have to make tough decisions like these ones.
