The Green Bay Packers could be in luck this coming offseason, at least where their search for a wide receiver is concerned.
The team is in need of an upgrade at the position after losing Davante Adams and is likely to have made it a priority for the offseason. As it turns out, they might not have to work very hard to get one.
According to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt (H/T Paul Andrew Esden Jr.), Corey Davis could become a cap casualty for the New York Jets ahead of next term, with people within the organization operating as if that will be the case.
The Packers have been after Davis for some time and tried trading for him last offseason. It was suggested that the player could have been part of a trade package involving Aaron Rodgers. Now, it appears the Packers won’t need to ship anyone in exchange, nor would they be required to negotiate with anyone but the player.
After pursuing Davis for as long as they have, Green Bay might just have to wait for the Jets to cut the wideout.
While Davis is a talented veteran, he has fallen down the pecking order in New York in favor of younger players. He would be very welcome in Green Bay, however.
