The Philadelphia Eagles have made multiple roster moves this Saturday, among them the surprising release of a cornerback offering lots of promise.
The team announced having cut Greedy Williams, a former second-round pick from LSU whom they signed to a one-year deal in March, on Saturday morning.
Philly acquired Williams with the hopes of him realizing his potential alongside Darius Slay and James Bradberry. But things have not worked out that way; at least that’s how they see it.
Williams spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, during which he made 99 tackles, 12 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Also waived by Philadelphia this Saturday were punter Ty Zentner, receiver Tyrie Cleveland, defensive tackle Noah Elliss, and cornerback Zech McPhearson. Cleveland, Ellis, and McPhearson are injury designation releases.
Cleveland sustained a particularly ugly injury against the Browns on Thursday, landing on his head while trying to make a catch during the preseason fixture before being stretchered off.

The Eagles have also signed players today, with defensive tackles Robert Cooper, Marvin Wilson, and Caleb Sanders coming through the door. Linebackers Tyreek Maddox-Williams and Quinton Bell have also been handed deals.
