Happy New Year! Week 17 saw some incredible quarterback performances from Lamar Jackson who continues having an amazing season along with a bounce back performance from Brock Purdy, and a solid performance from Jordan Love as he helps his Green Bay Packers stay alive in the playoff hunt. Other big names struggled in very tight moments and trap games their teams were eliminated from playoff contention. Here is where all 32 NFL Teams quarterbacks look after week 17 games:
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray: B- (Last week C)
Kyler Murray played a very good game in the Cardinals’ 35-31 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Murray completed 25 passes for 232 yards, threw three touchdowns against one interception, and rushed for 24 yards on five carries but was sacked once. It was a good night for Murray, as he matched the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts’ gameplay, and helped the Cardinals play spoiler against the Eagles preventing them from obtaining the one-seed.
Atlanta Falcons: Taylor Heinicke: D- Last week B-)
It was a rough afternoon for Taylor Heinicke, as he and the Falcons lost a tough 17-37 game, on the road, to the Chicago Bears. Heinicke completed 10 passes for 163 yards, threw a touchdown against three interceptions, rushed for 46 yards on four carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked twice. Henicke may not be the long-term answer for the Falcons’ quarterback woes, but Heinicke is a good backup and can be a mentor for the Falcons’ next quarterback in the 2024 season.
Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson: A (Last week A)
Lamar Jackson had a very strong MVP-like performance in the Raven’s dominant 56-19 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Jackson completed 18 passes for 321 yards, threw five touchdowns against no interceptions, and rushed for 35 yards on six carries but was sacked once. Jackson looked incredible, as he and the Ravens secured the one-seed to the AFC Playoffs and look to defend their home as they try to make a run toward the Super Bowl.

Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen: C (Last week C+)
Josh Allen may not have had his best passing performance against the New England Patriots, but he did help the Bills secure the 27-21 victory over the Pats. Josh Allen completed 15 passes for 169 yards, threw an interception against no touchdowns, rushed for 44 yards on 11 carries, and scored two rushing touchdowns but was sacked once. Allen is a great rusher, but needs to complete more passes, if the Bills want to secure the AFC East over the Miami Dolphins in week 18.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young: F (Last week C+)
It was a very rough afternoon for Bryce Young, as he and the Panthers suffered a shutout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Young completed 19 passes for 112 yards, threw an interception against no touchdowns, and rushed for two yards on one carry but was sacked six times. With a brutally bad performance by Young in week 17, the Panthers need to drastically improve their offensive line. They also desperately need to get Young a couple more talented Pro Bowl-like receivers and tight ends to help out, when Young begins his second season.
Chicago Bears: Justin Fields: B- (Last week C-)
Justin Fields played a very good game, on New Year’s Eve, as he and the Bears got the 37-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Fields completed 20 passes for 268 yards, threw a touchdown to DJ Moore against no interceptions, rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked three times. Fields needs to continue playing like this and show good ball protection, but he also needs more offensive line protection as the Bears look to retool their team in the 2024 off-season.
Cincinnati Bengals: Jake Browning: C (Last week D-)
Jake Browning had a very off afternoon as he and the Bengals fell in humiliating fashion to the Pittsburgh Steelers in an 11-34 loss. Browning completed 28 passes for 335 yards, threw one touchdown against three interceptions, was saJake Browning played better than he did against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 16, but the Bengals fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-25. Browning completed 19 passes for 197 yards and threw a touchdown pass, rushed for 32 yards on seven carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked six times. Browning has done a decent job filling in for Joe Burrow, despite the Bengals losing a tough one to the Chiefs, as they look to finish the 2023 season on a positive note in week 18. three times, and fumbled the ball but had a teammate recover the fumble. It was a very tough day for Browning, but he needs to put this awful performance behind him and focus on winning out with the Bengals- if they want to secure a playoff spot.
Cleveland Browns: Joe Flacco: B (Last week B-)
Joe Flacco had a very strong performance as the Browns trounced the New York Jets 37-20, and also secured their spot in the upcoming playoffs. Flacco completed 19 passes for 309 yards, threw three touchdowns against one interception, and rushed for three yards on two carries. Ever since the Browns signed Flacco, he has been playing at a very elite level that hasn’t been seen since his prime years with the Baltimore Ravens, and looks to make a strong playoff run once the playoffs begin.
Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott: B (Last week B-)
Prescott played a solid game against the Detroit Lions as they won 20-19 despite a controversial call going against the Lions in the very end. Prescott completed 26 passes for 345 yards, threw two touchdowns against one interception, and rushed for five yards on two carries but was sacked three times. Prescott and company look to not only win out, but also steal the NFC East from the Philadelphia Eagles, as they were shocked at home by the Arizona Cardinals.
Denver Broncos: Jarrett Stidham: C- (Last week B-)
Russell Wilson was benched by the Broncos in favor of Jarrett Stidham, who helped the Broncos to a 16-9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Stidham completed 20 passes for 224 yards, threw a touchdown against no interceptions, and rushed for six yards on six carries but was sacked twice. Stidham is not the long-term solution at quarterback for the Broncos, but will do decently enough to help the Broncos close the 2023 season, as they begin to search for their next signal caller in the 2024 offseason.
Detroit Lions: Jared Goff: D+ (Last week B)
Jared Goff played an alright game, but statistically could’ve played better, as the Lions lost 19-20 against the Dallas Cowboys in a controversial fashion. Goff completed 19 passes for 271 yards, threw a touchdown against two interceptions, and was sacked once. Goff needs to finish the 2023 season on a high note, as the playoffs are set to begin in the coming weeks.
Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love: A- (Last week B)
Jordan Love had a strong performance in the Packers 33-10 win on the road against the Minnesota Vikings on New Year’s eve as helps the Pack keep their playoff ambitions alive. Love completed 24 passes for 256 yards, threw three touchdowns against no interceptions, rushed for two yards on two carries, scored a rushing touchdown, and wasn’t sacked at all. Love may be a hit or miss quarterback at times. However, when love plays well, he can potentially take the Packers far for years to come if the Packers surround him with more young and Pro Bowl-like wide receivers and tight ends.
Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud: C+ (Last week F)
C.J. Stroud returned to action after missing the last two weeks with concussion-like symptoms, as the Texans defeated the Tennessee Titans 26-3. Stroud completed 24 passes for 213 yards, threw a touchdown to Brevin Jordan against no interceptions, and rushed for four yards on one carry but was sacked once. With Stroud back in the lineup, the Texans have a better chance of winning out and possibly making the playoffs. They may even win the AFC South, though they would need both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts to lose in week 18. Anything is still possible!
Indianapolis Colts: Gardner Minshew: C+ (Last week F)
Gardner Minshew turned his week 16 loss around and helped the Colts secure their week 17 23-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Minshew completed 15 passes for 224 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Alec Pierce against no interceptions, and rushed for three yards on two carries. Minshew did a solid job keeping the Colts afloat, as they look to lock down their spot for the playoffs and possibly win the AFC South.
Jacksonville Jaguars: C.J. Beathard: C (Last week D)
C.J. Beathard took the keys to the Jaguars’ offense in their 26-0 victory over the Carolina Panthers while Trevor Lawrence recovered from a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder. Beathard completed 17 passes for 178 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for 24 yards on three carries but was sacked three times. Beathard played well, but needs to be prepared to lead the Jaguars to victory- if Lawrence gets hurt again.
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes: C- (Last week D+)
Patrick Mahomes has had a tough 2023 season as a defending Super Bowl Champion, despite helping the Chiefs secure the 25-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Mahomes completed 21 passes for 245 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Isiah Pacheco against no interceptions, and rushed for two yards on four carries but was sacked twice and lost a fumble. The 2023 regular season is almost over, as the playoffs are set to take over immediately after. Mahomes looks to help the Chiefs make a potential playoff run.
Las Vegas Raiders: Aidan O’Connell: C (Last week C-)
Aidan O’Connell played a good game against the Indianapolis Colts, but fell short in a razor-thin 20-23 loss. O’Connell completed 30 passes for 299 yards, threw two touchdowns to Davante Adams against zero interceptions, and rushed for three yards on two carries, but was sacked twice. O’Connell showed some fight and grit, but the Raiders were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Now, they need to focus on finishing the season on a positive note.
Los Angeles Chargers: Easton Stick: D+ (Last week D)
Easton Stick played slightly better than in week 16, but the Chargers fell to the Denver Broncos 9-16. Stick completed 24 passes for 220 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for 31 yards on five carries but was sacked once. Stick didn’t play his best game but could’ve played worse as he is doing everything he can as a backup while Justin Herbert recovers from his season-ending thumb surgery so he can return to action in the 2024 regular season.
Los Angeles Rams: Matthew Stafford: C (Last week B)
Matthew Stafford helped the Rams secure a very close 26-25 victory over the New York Giants. Stafford completed 24 passes for 317 yards and threw a touchdown against two interceptions but was sacked four times. Stafford didn’t play his best football, but he helped the Rams not only win the game, but punch their ticket into the upcoming playoffs.
Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa: C- (Last week B+)
Despite the Dolphins losing 19-56 in humiliating fashion, Tua Tagovailoa played all right on the road, but needs to rebound if he and the Dolphins want to win the AFC East. Tagovailoa completed 22 passes for 287 yards, threw two touchdowns against two interceptions, and rushed for 14 yards on two carries but was sacked three times. Tagovailoa needs to learn from his mistakes and errors from this game, and improve in week 18’s divisional showdown against the Buffalo Bills.
Minnesota Vikings: Nick Mullens: C- (Last week D)
Nick Mullens saw his share of action in the second half the the Vikings 10-33 loss to the Green Bay Packers as he took over for a struggling Jaren Hall who threw five passes for 67 yards, threw an interception against no touchdowns, and was sacked three times. Mullen completed 13 passes for 113 yards, threw a touchdown against no interceptions, and rushed for six yards on one carry but was sacked once. The Vikings need to roll with Mullens instead of Jaren Hall who absolutely got devoured by the Packers’ defense in week 17 if the Vikings want to stay afloat in the NFC North when they play for a chance for a potential playoff spot in week 18 against the Detroit Lions.
New England Patriots: Bailey Zappe: D- (Last week B)
It was a very rough afternoon for Bailey Zappe as he and the Patriots took a tough 21-27 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Zappe completed 16 passes for 209 yards, threw three interceptions against no touchdown passes, rushed for 37 yards on five carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked three times. If Zappe is the main quarterback for the Patriots moving forward, he needs to step it up and avoid getting sacked, as the Patriots desperately need to hit the reset button in the 2024 offseason.
New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr: B (Last week B-)
Derek Carr showed he and the Saints have some fight left in them, as they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-13. Carr completed 24 passes for 197 yards, threw two touchdowns against no interceptions, and rushed for negative three yards on three carries but was sacked once. Carr needs to play like this more often and help the Saints win out if they want to win the NFC South and secure a playoff spot.
New York Giants: Tyrod Taylor: C- (Last week C-)
Tyrod Taylor did everything he could to help the Giants out, but couldn’t get the win as they heartbreakingly fell 25-26 to the Los Angeles Rams. Taylor completed 27 passes for 319 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, and rushed for 40 yards on six carries but was sacked six times. Not the worst performance of the afternoon, but Taylor needs to help the Giants finish their dreadful season on a positive note or lose out and help the team secure a higher draft pick.
New York Jets: Trevor Siemian: D+ (Last week C)
Siemian did not have a good road trip in Cleveland, as the Jets lost to the Cleveland Browns 20-37. Siemian completed 32 passes for 261 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, and rushed for 13 yards on four carries but was sacked twice. Even though Siemian could’ve played worse, he did whatever he could to keep the Jets afloat. Certainly, at this point, the Jets just want this season to end and focus on improving the offense for Aaron Rodgers’ return in 2024.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts: B- (Last week B-)
Jalen Hurts played a good game at home against the Arizona Cardinals, but couldn’t get the win as the Cardinals stunned the Eagles 31-35. Hurts completed 18 passes for 167 yards, threw three touchdowns against one interception, rushed for 25 yards on eight carries, and wasn’t sacked at all. Hurts did everything he could to help the Eagles attempt to secure the win, but fell short when the Cardinals came back and took the game over in the second half.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Mason Rudolph: D+ (Last week C+)
Mason Rudolph took a slight step back in his performance against the Seattle Seahawks, despite the Steelers getting the 30-23 victory. Rudolph completed 18 passes for 274 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for five yards on six carries but was sacked once. Rudolph proved he’s a good game manager, as he looks to help the Steelers finish the 2023 season on a positive note.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy: A- (Last week F)
Brock Purdy turned things around with a 27-10 victory in week 17 over the Washington Commanders. Purdy completed 22 passes for 230 yards, threw two touchdowns against no interceptions, rushed for four yards on one carry, and wasn’t sacked at all. It was a great rebound performance for Purdy, as he looks to get prepared for the upcoming playoffs.
Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith: C- (Last week B-)
Geno Smith played slightly better than Mason Rudolph, but the Seahawks fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-30. Smith completed 23 passes for 290 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba against no interceptions, and rushed for 33 yards on three carries but lost a fumble and was sacked. A tough loss for Smith and the Seahawks but he needs to step up, rebound, and win out in week 18.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Baker Mayfield: C- (Last week B+)
It was a tough Sunday afternoon for Baker Mayfield, as the Buccaneers fell to the New Orleans Saints 13-23. Mayfield completed 22 passes for 309 yards, threw two touchdowns against two interceptions, and rushed for negative one yard on one carry but was sacked twice. Mayfield needs to step it up if the Bucs want to win the NFC South, and clinch a playoff berth in week 18 against the Carolina Panthers.
Tennessee Titans: Ryan Tannehill: D- (Last week D+)
Will Levis originally started the game but left with a foot injury giving Ryan Tannehill the keys to the offense. Tannehill completed 16 passes for 168 yards and was sacked five times while Will Levis was sacked six times. It was a very tough afternoon as the Titans needed to attempt to finish the 2023 season on a positive note.
Washington Commanders: Sam Howell: D- (Last week F)
It was another tough week for Sam Howell as he and the Commanders fell to the San Francisco 49ers 10-27. Howell completed 17 passes for 169 yards, threw a touchdown against two interceptions, and rushed for negative one yard on one carry but was sacked once. Howell is not the Commanders’ long-term answer at quarterback but need to find Howell’s replacement in the 2024 offseason or 2024 NFL Draft.
