The 2024 NFL regular season is finally here, and we at TPS are ecstatic about all of the memorable plays that all 32 NFL teams’ starting quarterbacks will bring this year. Some NFL teams started new rookie quarterbacks, getting their first taste of NFL action, while other seasoned veterans return to action after dealing with injuries or heartbreaking playoff losses, ready to ride the ship for a potential playoff and Super Bowl run. However, not every quarterback played an A+ level, which leaves more questions than answers for teams moving forward into week two.
Here are the grades for all 32 NFL teams’ quarterbacks after week one.
Who are the NFL quarterbacks that shined brightly after week one of the season?
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray: B-
Despite the Cardinals losing a tough and close game against the Buffalo Bills, Kyler Murray played well throughout the game. Murray completed 21 passes for 162 yards, threw two touchdown passes against no interceptions, and led the Cardinals with 57 rushing yards on five carries, but was sacked four times and lost a fumble. With Murray hopefully back for a full season, depending on how things go, he looked great against the Bills despite the 28-34 loss.
If the offensive line stays healthy, Murray will for sure have a Pro Bowl-like year and potentially help the Red Birds return to the playoffs. Murray had an opportunity to throw the ball to Marvin Harrison Jr. to win the game but missed that golden chance.
Atlanta Falcons: Kirk Cousins: D
Even though Kirk Cousins threw a nice touchdown pass to Kyle Pitts and didn’t get hurt, it was a tough game for Cousins, statistically, in the Falcons’ 10-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cousins completed 16 passes for 155 yards and threw a touchdown against two interceptions but was sacked twice and lost a fumble to T.J. Watt.

Cousins needs to bounce back from this loss if he wants the Falcons to compete in the competitive NFC South, even though the Steelers’ defense is very hard-hitting. However, if Cousins continues to struggle, the Falcons need to start Michael Penix Jr. immediately.
Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson: B+
Despite the Ravens’ 20-27 loss, after almost winning the game, if Isaiah Likely’s toe wasn’t on the line, Lamar Jackson played a solid game. Jackson completed 26 passes for 273 yards, threw a touchdown against no interceptions, and rushed for 122 yards on 16 carries, but was sacked once and lost a fumble.
Jackson, however, threw some key incompletions and missed a wide-open Zay Flowers near the end of the game. Again, Jackson played a solid game, but the rest of the Ravens’ offense needs to find their offensive identity, which they should be able to do as the 2024 season progresses.
Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen: A-
Despite being down before halftime, Josh Allen came through with a halftime-closing rushing touchdown and led the comeback against the Arizona Cardinals, resulting in a 34-28 victory. Allen completed 18 passes for 232 yards, scored two receiving touchdowns against no interceptions, rushed for 71 yards on 19 carries, and scored two rushing touchdowns.
Allen showed NFL fans that he is the true face of the Bills despite having no Stefon Diggs on the roster. This was an important morale booster and showed the Bills can win even with the roster changes. We can’t wait to see what else Allen and the Bills can accomplish this year as the season progresses.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young: F
Where to begin? It feels like a throwback to Bryce Young from 2023, with a lack of offensive help in the Panthers’ 10-47 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Young completed 13 passes for 161 yards, threw no touchdowns against two costly interceptions (one of those interceptions was his first pass of the game), and was sacked four times.
However, Young scored a rushing touchdown. It was an awful day for Young, as he’s starting to look more like a bust, throwing misfires, incompletions, and two costly interceptions. If the Panthers lose out, the 2025 first-round pick will await them.
Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams: D+
Even though Caleb Williams didn’t throw any touchdowns or interceptions in his NFL regular season debut, he did make history and become the first number one overall drafted quarterback to win in week one since David Carr did it back in 2002 with the Houston Texans. Williams completed 14 passes for 93 yards and rushed for 15 yards on five carries, but was sacked twice and lost a fumble, yet recovered it.
Despite throwing more incompletions than Will Levis, Williams looks to possibly have a promising career in the Windy City, as he managed the game fairly well and got the week one victory for the Bears. They look to make noise in the NFC North. Williams just needs to throw that elusive touchdown pass, which will eventually happen.
Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow: D+
Even though Joe Burrow didn’t throw any touchdowns or interceptions in the game, he struggled as he missed open receivers in the first and second downs and was sacked three times. Burrow completed 21 passes for 164 yards and rushed for 15 yards on four carries. Burrow and the Bengals will bounce back from this painful loss, but the offensive line didn’t give Burrow enough time to make big plays.
Burrow needs to play better, drastically, come week two when the Bengals travel to Arrowhead Stadium and face the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson: D-
Deshaun Watson had an awful game in his first season back from having shoulder surgery in a 17-33 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Watson completed 24 passes for 169 yards, threw one touchdown against two interceptions, and rushed for 39 yards on five carries but was sacked six times. It was a very brutal game for Watson, as he struggled in his 2024 season debut, but he will have to find a way to bounce back from this game. Otherwise, he’ll be benched for Jameis Winston or Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott: A-
After signing a new four-year $240 million deal, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys went to work and dominated the Cleveland Browns 33-17. Prescott completed 19 passes for 179 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks against no interceptions, and rushed for three yards on one carry but was sacked three times. Prescott played well but will undoubtedly play better as he’s a very productive NFL quarterback and is the leader of the Cowboys’ offense. H
He will need to if he hopes to repeat as NFC East champions for the first time since the 2003 to 2004 Philadelphia Eagles.
Denver Broncos: Bo Nix: D+
Being a rookie quarterback starting in your first game in the NFL isn’t easy, as Bo Nix saw firsthand in the Broncos’ 20-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Nix completed 26 passes for 138 yards, threw no touchdowns against two interceptions, rushed for 35 yards on five carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked twice.
Nix will be all right if he can learn from his mistakes in week one, find open receivers who are unguarded, and improve his performance in week two when the Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Detroit Lions: Jared Goff: B
Jared Goff played competitively as the Lions defeated the Los Angeles Rams 26-20 in overtime to open up the 2024 season. Goff completed 18 passes for 217 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, and rushed for seven yards on one carry but was sacked twice. Goff played well but will improve as the 2024 season progresses.
Goff and Matthew Stafford’s performance on the field was almost identical, statistically, but Goff and the Lions emerged from the battlefield as the winners in week one.
Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love: B+
Jordan Love played a solid game despite leaving the game with an MCL sprain that will keep him out of action for three to six weeks. Love completed 17 passes for 260 yards and threw two touchdowns against one interception but was sacked once. Love being out is going to temporarily hurt the Packers for the next few weeks. However, the Packers have to make sure Malik Willis gets prepared for regular-season action.
Especially for week two when the Packers square off against the Indianapolis Colts. When Love returns, he should be able to help the Packers compete for the NFC North and a spot in the playoffs.
Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud: A-
C.J. Stroud continues to look amazing as he enters his sophomore season in the NFL. Stroud completed 24 passes for 234 yards, threw two touchdowns against no interceptions, and rushed for 13 yards on four carries but was sacked four times. Stroud is going to continue to amaze many as the Carolina Panthers continue to have buyer’s remorse from the 2023 NFL Draft. If Stroud continues to play at an elite level, he could potentially become a nominee for NFL MVP.
Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Richardson: B-
After recovering from season-ending shoulder surgery, it was great to see Anthony Richardson back in action despite the Colts losing 27-29 to the Houston Texans. Richardson completed nine passes for 212 yards, threw two touchdowns against one interception, and rushed for 56 yards on nine carries. Richardson did throw 10 incompletions but played a solid game, showing the Colts faithful some well-needed optimism moving forward in the 2024 season.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence: B
Trevor Lawrence played well but couldn’t get a touchdown going in the second half of the Jaguars’ 17-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Lawrence completed 12 passes for 162 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr. against no interceptions, and rushed for eight yards on one carry. Lawrence played a good game, but the rest of the team shot themselves in the foot, resulting in the Dolphins coming from behind and putting up 17 unanswered points in the loss.
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes: A-
Patrick Mahomes once again had a solid game as he and the Chiefs began their quest for a third straight Super Bowl victory. Mahomes completed 20 passes for 291 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, and rushed for three yards on two carries but was sacked twice. Despite throwing an interception and getting sacked twice, Mahomes, once again, showed the world why he’s the best quarterback in the NFL.
He is already showing great on-field chemistry with rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy. With Mahomes continuing to play at an elite level, it should send shivers down the spins of any opposing defenses for the rest of the season. Mahomes even threw some shade at Isaiah Likely’s toe on the line and said, “He’s got to wear white cleats next time.”
Las Vegas Raiders: Gardner Minshew: C-
Even though Gardner Minshew isn’t the most explosive quarterback, he did have a decent afternoon despite the Raiders getting dropped 10-22 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers. Minshew completed 25 passes for 257 yards and threw a touchdown against one interception but was sacked four times.
Minshew will improve slowly as the season progresses, but the Raiders will need to draft a new quarterback for the 2025 NFL season as Minshew is more of a backup role player than a starter.
Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert: B
Herbert’s return to action, after recovering from thumb surgery, was off to a great start in the Chargers’ 22-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert completed 17 passes for 144 yards, threw a touchdown pass against no interceptions, and had six rushing yards on four carries but was sacked once. Herbert will flourish under Jim Harbaugh’s leadership, but the offensive line remains a bit shaky. They will need to find ways to improve as the season progresses.
Los Angeles Rams: Matthew Stafford: B
Despite losing 20-26 in overtime, Matthew Stafford played well in his second return to Ford Field as the Rams signal caller. Stafford completed 34 passes for 317 yards and threw a touchdown against an interception but was sacked twice. Despite the loss, Stafford played very well against the Lions’ defense, including having a solid no-look pass to Tyler Johnson in the fourth quarter. Stafford and the Rams will bounce back from this loss, as they get prepared for their week two against the Arizona Cardinals on the road.
Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa: B+
Tua Tagovailoa played well and led the Dolphins to a come-from-behind 20-17 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars to open the 2024 season. Tagovailoa completed 23 passes for 338 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill against no interceptions, and rushed for 11 yards on one carry but was sacked three times.
Even though the Dolphins started slow and were down 7-17, the Jaguars’ collapse helped Tagovailoa secure the victory for a great Dolphins squad looking to make some noise in the AFC East.
Minnesota Vikings: Sam Darnold: A-
For Darnold’s first game back at Metlife Stadium as a starting NFL quarterback since 2021, he and the Vikings played a very solid game in their 28-6 beatdown victory against the New York Giants. Darnold completed 19 passes for 208 yards, threw two touchdowns against one interception, and rushed for three yards on three carries but was sacked once.
Even though J.J. McCarthy was supposed to be the starting quarterback until he had to deal with meniscus surgery, Darnold should be able to hold his own with the Vikings. He will need to develop chemistry with Justin Jefferson, Aaron Jones, and Jordan Addison as the season progresses.
New England Patriots: Jacoby Brissett: B-
Despite being a backup quarterback most of his NFL career, Brissett played well as a game manager and helped the Patriots stun the Cincinnati Bengals 16-10 on the road. Brissett completed 15 passes for 121 yards and rushed for 32 yards on seven carries. Having played with the Patriots back in 2016, Brissett knows the team, and even though he played well, he needs to improve on the passing game in the coming weeks if the Patriots want to build upon this win.
As a backup quarterback, he showed veteran leadership and will continue to serve as a great mentor to newly drafted rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr: A-
For all of his ups and downs, Carr played a solid game in the Saints’ 47-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Carr completed 19 passes for 200 yards, threw three touchdowns against no interceptions, and rushed for 13 yards on two carries but was sacked once. If Carr continues to play like this for the rest of the season, the Saints will very likely be a playoff team and possibly get a win, depending on how the rest of the season turns out.
New York Giants: Daniel Jones: F
It was a very disastrous day for Daniel Jones as the Giants were humiliated at home 6-28 against the Minnesota Vikings. Jones completed 22 passes for 186 yards, threw no touchdowns against two very costly interceptions, and was sacked five times. It also doesn’t help Jones that the Giants’ offensive line is ranked 28th to begin the 2024 season, per Pro Football Focus.
However, if Jones continues to struggle, it may be time for the Giants to bench him and possibly replace him with someone else. And to add salt to the wound, fans waited outside of Metlife Stadium just to boo Jones after the game.
New York Jets: Aaron Rodgers: C
Even though the Jets lost 19-32, it was refreshing to see Aaron Rodgers playing the majority of the game. Rodgers completed 13 passes for 167 yards and threw a touchdown to Allen Lazard but threw a costly interception, which was intended for Garrett Wilson, and was sacked once.
Rodgers is slowly shaking off the cobwebs as he gets readjusted to full-time NFL action on the field for the first time since his Achilles injury in 2023. We do hope Rodgers has a solid season and helps the Jets return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 season.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts: B
Despite some turf slip-ups and two interceptions in the Eagles’ 34-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Hurts played well in his regular-season debut. Hurts completed 20 passes for 278 yards, threw two touchdowns against two interceptions, and rushed for 33 yards on 13 carries but was sacked twice and fumbled the ball twice and lost a fumble.
Hurts and the Eagles are looking to move past their second half of the 2023 season collapse with a stronger 2024 season. They may just do that, as they have a lot more support in the backfield, thanks to Saquon Barkley joining the Eagles in the offseason. We’ll just have to wait and see how Hurts performs as the season progresses.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin Fields: B-
Even though Justin Fields’ last season with the Chicago Bears was very brutal, maybe a change of scenery was just what he needed, as the Steelers won 18-10 against the Atlanta Falcons. Despite not throwing any touchdowns or interceptions, Fields was a great game manager who completed 17 passes for 156 yards and rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries, but was sacked twice and lost a fumble, yet recovered it.
If Fields continues to play well in the Steel City, he could potentially make a good case as Comeback Player of the Year. It would’ve been nice to see Fields throw a touchdown pass, but it’ll eventually happen as the season continues moving forward.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy: B-
Brock Purdy didn’t throw any touchdowns or interceptions in the 49ers’ week one victory over the New York Jets, but he did manage a successful game in the end. Purdy completed 19 passes for 231 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for 11 yards on a carry but was sacked twice.
Purdy looked like a solid offensive leader on a mission to potentially return to the Super Bowl and win it all despite not throwing a touchdown in the victory. We’ll just wait and see how Purdy does as the season continues.
Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith: C+
Despite starting the game sloppily and giving the Denver Broncos two safeties, Geno Smith turned things around and secured the win for the Seahawks in the post-Pete Carroll era. Smith completed 18 passes for 171 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, rushed for 30 yards on four carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked twice.
Smith looked as though he was playing throwback for the New York Jets before he and the Seahawks turned things around and secured the 26-20 win over the Broncos.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Baker Mayfield: A
Baker Mayfield looked electric in the Bucs’ week one 37-20 victory over the Washington Commanders. Mayfield completed 24 passes for 289 yards, threw four touchdowns against no interceptions, and rushed for 21 yards on three carries but was sacked once. Does this game make Mayfield a candidate for MVP? Not yet! It’s only been one game so far this season, but it was awesome to see Mayfield look great as he leads the Buccaneers moving forward.
Tennessee Titans: Will Levis: D+
Will Levis is the Titans’ main quarterback moving forward, but he and the Titans need to finish games on a stronger note. Levis completed 19 passes for 127 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Chig Okonkwo, and rushed for 36 yards on four carries, but threw two costly interceptions, and one of those interceptions was returned by Tyrique Stevenson for a 43-yard pick-six.
If Levis wants to bury the 2023 season, he and the Titans need to drastically learn from this game and finish stronger as they get prepared for their home opener against the New York Jets in week two.
Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels: C-
Even though Jayden Daniels didn’t get the Commanders the win in week one, he did show some optimism moving forward. Daniels completed 17 passes for 184 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, rushed for 88 yards on 16 carries, and scored two rushing touchdowns but was sacked twice.
Daniels is going to have a decent rookie season but will likely not be named Rookie of the Year, as the Commanders trading away Jahan Dotson before the season began will undoubtedly impact Daniels’ performance throughout the 2024 season.
