With week five in the books, we’re starting to see who the elite offenses are, the offenses that are good but took a step back for the week, and the offenses that need to hit the reset button.
Arizona Cardinals: C-
The Cardinals are one of those NFL teams where everyone thought they were going to constantly lose and tank for the first overall pick. However, Joshua Dobbs, Hollywood Brown, and James Conner have been putting up strong offensive efforts in their games so far this season. The offense took a bit of a step back when Dobbs threw two picks (despite throwing two touchdowns with one of those going to Hollywood Brown) against a Cincinnati Bengals team, out for blood, after their week four loss to the Tennessee Titans. To make matters worse, James Conner is out with a knee injury in the loss to Cincinnati. The Cardinals proved to everyone they’re better than expected and will find a way to rebound.
Atlanta Falcons: C+
The Falcons are another one of those teams with question marks around their second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder. He has shown flashes of success, especially when utilizing support from Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London. Pitts and London may not have scored any touchdowns, but they both combined for 165 receiving yards. Ridder scored a rushing touchdown and Robinson scored a receiving touchdown. Even though Robinson lost a fumble in the game, the Falcons got the win over the rebuilding Houston Texans. The Falcons offense is good, but will be tested against some strong contenders in the remaining games to come in the season.
Baltimore Ravens: D+
The Ravens came into week five’s game against the Steelers with some momentum from their week four victory against the Deshon Watson-less Cleveland Browns. Lamar Jackson threw one interception in the game and didn’t throw any touchdown passes to any wide receivers or tight ends. Rashod Bateman almost scored a touchdown which could’ve sealed the deal for Baltimore, but dropped it in the second quarter. Odell Beckham Jr. left the game with an apparent leg injury. Zay Flowers caught five receptions for 73 yards and Mark Andrews caught six receptions for 65 yards. Justice Hill rushed for 32 yards on seven carries and scored the only Ravens touchdown of the day. The Ravens need to wake up and bounce back from this loss if they want to win the AFC North for the first time since the 2019 season.

Buffalo Bills: C-
Offensively the Bills started their campaign against the Jacksonville Jaguars who were fully rested and used to the British time zone as this was the Jaguars second consecutive London match. The Bills started slow but attempted a comeback in the second half of the game. Josh Allen played fair completing 27 passes for 359 yards, threw two touchdowns and one interception, rushed for 14 yards, and scored a rushing touchdown. The running backs for the Bills didn’t have serious numbers on the ground, but the receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis combined for 14 receptions for 221 yards and both scored touchdowns for the Bills despite the failed comeback. Buffalo will rebound from this in their next games and are favored to win the ever-changing AFC East.
Carolina Panthers: D-
The Panther’s offense is just plain bad but could’ve performed much worse against the resurgence Detroit Lions. Bryce Young did throw three touchdowns in the loss but intercepted two times. Adam Thielen continues to be the Panthers leader at the receiver end with 11 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown. Other Panthers playmakers who scored touchdowns from Young are D.J. Clark Jr. and Tommy Tremble. The Panther’s rushing game was almost nonexistent and was held to under 100 yards by the Lion’s defense. At this point, the Panthers might as well tank for the rest of the season in hopes of getting a high draft pick in the 2024 draft and drafting an offensive playmaker to help Bryce Young succeed in the NFC South.
Chicago Bears: C+
Hey look- the Chicago Bears FINALLY got a win. Justin Fields played well as he threw four touchdowns in their upset week five victory over the Washington Commanders, and three of those touchdowns were caught by D.J. Moore who caught eight receptions for 230 yards. The other Bears receiver to score a touchdown was Cole Kmet who caught five receptions for 42 yards. The Bears rushing game was led by Khalil Herbert who rushed for 76 yards on 10 carries. The Bears looked like they could potentially earn the first two picks of the 2024 draft and they can if they drop games. However, they looked very good against the Commanders and did show they had some fight left in them. The next question for this Bears franchise is how many games will they win as the season continues?
Cincinnati Bengals: B-
The Bengals offense took a step back in week four but came back and reinvigorated themselves in their week five victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Joe Burrow threw three touchdowns which were all caught by Ja’Marr Chase who caught 15 receptions for 192 yards in the victory. Joe Mixon also had a solid game where he rushed for 81 yards on 25 carries. This week five game shows that the Bengals are potentially back and alert in the jungle and are ready to pounce on their prey.
Cleveland Browns: Bye Week
The Browns offense really needs to step up in order to rebound from their week four loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Dallas Cowboys: F
The Cowboys entered Sunday Night Football with their usual hype only to fall flat to an elite San Francisco 49ers team that dominated on all ends of the football. Dak Prescott threw one touchdown and three interceptions in the loss. On the ground, Tony Pollard was held to 29 yards on eight carries while the Cowboys as a team were held to 57 yards on 19 carries. KaVontae Turpin caught one reception for 26 yards and scored the only touchdown for the Cowboys while CeeDee Lamb led the team with 49 receiving yards on four receptions on the night. The Cowboys leave week five with more question marks than answers on offense. They always enter the season with hype yet they have consistently fall flat against more elite teams in the league. Something needs to change if the Cowboys want to compete for the NFC East crown.
Denver Broncos: D-
The Broncos lost in humiliating fashion, but they could’ve played much worse. Russell Wilson played fair by completing 20 passes for 196 yards and threw two touchdowns on the day. Jaleel McLaughlin caught three receptions for 21 yards and scored a touchdown while rushing for 68 yards on nine carries and Adam Trautman caught four receptions for 26 yards and scored a touchdown. Samaje Perine led the team with four receptions for 73 yards on the day. The rest of the Bronco’s offense looked sloppy against a strong Jets defense, but to be fair, the Jets’ offense also played just as sloppy on offense. It also didn’t help that Sean Payton ran his mouth about Nathanial Hackett who was the head coach of the Broncos last year and who got the W over the Broncos as the Jets offensive Coordinator. It may be time for the Broncos to start over from scratch if they want to make the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Detroit Lions: A
The Lions balled out on offense and it showed in the team’s week five victory against a nonexistent Panthers defense. Jared Goff threw three touchdowns and had a rushing touchdown in the victory. David Montgomery and Craig Reynolds combined for 161 yards on 26 carriers and both scored rushing touchdowns. Josh Reynolds led the team in receiving yards with four receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. Sam LaPorta caught three receptions for 47 yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory. Head coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson truly deserve credit for helping change the culture of the Lions to a winning team. Don’t be surprised if the Lions go far in the playoffs because of their amazing offense this season.
Green Bay Packers: D+
The Packers entered Monday Night Football as favorites to win against the Raiders but they came up empty. Jordan Love played his worst game of the season with 16 pass completions for 182 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions, and was sacked twice. A.J. Dillon kept the Packers afloat with 76 rushing yards on 20 carries and scored the Packer’s only touchdown on the night. Christian Watson led the Packers with 91 receiving yards on three receptions. The Packers looked like a team that could and possibly can be a playoff sleeper, but the Raiders defense proved the Packers still have work to do even after Aaron Rodgers left the NFC North. The Pack will rebound from this loss and will compete for a chance to appear in the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
Houston Texans: C+
Despite the nail-biting loss to Atlanta, the Texans played well offensively. C.J. Stroud threw a touchdown pass to Dalton Schultz who also caught seven receptions for 65 yards in the game and Dameno Pierce rushed for 66 yards on 20 carries. The Texans’ offense will be fine if not improved and will finish other games a lot better than they did in their week five contest. Stroud is going to be the Texan’s star quarterback moving forward as well as the Texans getting more touchdown passes to Nico Collins who was kind of quiet in the week five game with three receptions for 39 yards.
Indianapolis Colts: B-
Despite losing starting quarterback Anthony Richardson to an injury, backup Gardner Minshew filled in just fine as the Colt’s signal caller. The true leader of the Colts offense in their week five victory goes to Zack Moss who rushed for 165 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns. Josh Downs caught six receptions for 97 yards and Michael Pitman Jr. caught five receptions for 52 yards in the victory. As the Colts keep doing whatever they can to secure wins even though Richardson is going to be out for some time, they look more and more like a surprise Wildcard team that can potentially make some noise in the playoffs offensively. Only time will tell how this Colts team does as the season continues.
Jacksonville Jaguars: B
The Jaguars played well on offense for a second straight week in their second home in London. Trevor Lawrence completed 25 passes for 315 yards and threw one touchdown to Zay Jones who caught three receptions for 23 yards. Travis Etienne Jr. rushed for 136 yards on 26 carries and scored two touchdowns on the ground. Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk led the Jags in receiving with 13 receptions for 200 yards in the victory over Buffalo. Jacksonville is continuing to play as if the world is against them similar to last season where no one saw the Jaguars taking the AFC South. If they continue to play the way they are, they can go much farther in the playoffs than they did last year.
Kansas City Chiefs: B+
The good news for the Chiefs offense, other than the win, was Patrick Mahomes rebound from last week’s performance and did not throw an interception all game against a struggling Vikings team. Travis Kelce caught 10 receptions for 67 yards and scored one touchdown on the day even though he left the game with a foot injury before coming back into the game. Isiah Pacheco rushed for 55 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown and Rashee Rice caught four receptions for 33 yards and scored one touchdown on the day. The Chiefs offense is great, but we have seen some small cracks in their mighty offense. They’re still favored to return to the Super Bowl as of week five, but all of that can change as the season continues.
Las Vegas Raiders: B
The Raiders proved a lot of people wrong by showing up and proving they still have life left in the tank even after some disappointing losses earlier in the season. Jimmy Garoppolo completed 22 passes for 208 yards and threw a touchdown and an interception on the night. Jakobi Meyers caught seven receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown while DaVante Adams caught four receptions for 45 yards. Josh Jacobs led the Raiders on the ground with 69 rushing yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown. The Raider’s offense can play rough and gritty against tough opponents and can either win games or fall flat and lose. The Raiders have the talent to turn their season around and make a push as a possible playoff team, but always expect the unexpected to happen in the NFL.
Los Angeles Chargers: Bye week
If the Chargers offense played like they did in their week four victory over the Las Vegas Raiders if not better, they can see themselves making a return to the playoffs.
Los Angeles Rams: C+
The Rams looked pretty good on offense despite the tough week five defeat to the NFC East leading Philadelphia Eagles. Matt Stafford threw two touchdowns and no interceptions in the effort while Cooper Kupp caught eight receptions for 118 yards. Puka Nacua caught seven receptions for 71 yards and scored a touchdown while Tutu Atwell caught two receptions for nine yards and scored a touchdown. The Rams rushing attack was held to 54 yards and did not score a rushing touchdown all game. If the Rams continue to play only to an average level, they can expect to be a playoff bottom feeder if they manage to reach the 2023-24 playoffs.
Miami Dolphins: B+
The Dolphins offensively ran and passed all over the struggling New York Giants with everything they had. Tua Tagovailoa threw two touchdowns and two interceptions in the victory. De’Von Achane rushed for 151 yards on 11 carries and scored a rushing touchdown and Raheem Mostert rushed for 65 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown. Tyreek Hill and Jaleyn Waddle combined for 13 receptions for 216 yards and both scored touchdowns against the G-Men. The Dolphins continue to look better and better with each victory they earn in the season and are looking like they can steal the AFC East from the Buffalo Bills.
Minnesota Vikings: C-
The Vikings offense have once again come up short in a game they could’ve won. Kirk Cousins did have a good game completing 29 passes for 284 yards and threw two touchdowns on the day. The Vikings rushing attack was held to 70 yards all game and no running back or quarterback topped 30 rushing yards all game. Jordan Addison caught six receptions for 64 yards and scored a touchdown, Alexander Mattison caught two receptions for 20 yards and also caught a touchdown, and Justin Jefferson caught three receptions for 28 yards and left the game with an injury and will miss a few weeks of action. The Vikings offense can make plays, but continue to fall flat due to some incompetence and strong opposing defenses. It may be too late to turn things around in Minnesota for a chance at the playoffs. If the Vikings continue to lose more close games, it may also be time to make some changes with the coaching staff and drafting more young talent.
New England Patriots: F
The Patriots offense looked like a disaster in Foxbourgh, MA as the Saints marched all over them in a week five 34-0 shutout loss. The Patriots’ running game was held to only 45 yards on the day while Kendrick Bourne led the Patriots in receptions caught two passes for 43 yards on the day. Once the season ends, the Patriots need to either move on from Bill Bellichick and/or overhaul the entire team and start over from scratch in order to become relevant again!
New Orleans Saints: A-
The Saints offense marched into New England and cooked the Patriots 34-0 in week five. Alvin Kamara returned to action and scored his first touchdown of the season, Michael Thomas caught four receptions for 65 yards, and Chris Olave and Foster Moreau caught a combined three receptions for 18 yards and scored two touchdowns. The Saints may not be the best surprise team in the NFL, but they can make some noise against any opponent and can very likely make some more noise in the playoffs depending on how the finish the 2023 season.
New York Giants: F
The Giants were an absolute train wreck in their week five loss in South Beach. Daniel Jones was sacked six times and left the game with an injury and is questionable for week six. Tyrod Taylor entered the game and didn’t fare much better against Miami’s defense. The Giants’ rushing attack was held to under 85 yards while Darren Waller led the Giants receiving game with eight receptions for 86 yards on the day. The Giants were kept out of the endzone offensively except for a couple field goals and a defensive touchdown in the second quarter. It’s going to continue to be a long and painful season in the Meadowlands for a Giants team hoping to return to the playoffs which looks to be further and further out of their reach.
New York Jets: D+
Even though the Jets got the win on the road in the Mile High City, they didn’t have the best game offensively. Zach Wilson completed 19 passes for 199 yards, threw no touchdowns, and one interception on the day. The true offensive star of the game is Breece Hall who rushed for 177 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown on the day. The Jets receivers didn’t even reach 100 receiving yards (the wide receiver with the most receptions on the day was Tyler Conklin who caught four receptions for 67 yards). The rest of the scoring came from field goals and defensive safeties. It’s no secret that the Jets offense has been a mess after Aaron Rodgers was lost to a torn Achilles for the season in week one. This was just a lucky victory for the Jets as they still have a lot of work to do in order to stay relevant in the AFC East.
Philadelphia Eagles: B+
The Philadelphia Eagles came in and played a strong offensive battle against a rebuilding Los Angeles Rams team. Jalen Hurts threw a touchdown pass and scored a rushing touchdown on the day. A.J. Brown caught six receptions for 127 yards and Dallas Goedert caught eight receptions for 117 yards and scored a touchdown. Offensively the Eagles are just as strong as their 2022 Super Bowl runner up team if not a tiny bit better. From the look of how the Eagles are playing, their game plan is get back to the Super Bowl and win it all avenging their loss last year.
Pittsburgh Steelers: C-
The Steelers didn’t play their best football similar to the Ravens’ offense, but Kenny Pickett was able to throw a touchdown pass to George Pickens who caught six receptions for 130 yards in the contest. Jaylen Warren rushed for 40 yards on nine carries and star running back Najee Harris rushed for 37 yards on 14 carries. All other Steelers receivers and tight ends had themselves a quiet day similar to the Ravens receivers which shows viewers this was not an offensive battle, but more of a defensive fight between the long bitter AFC North rivals.
San Francisco 49ers: A
The 49ers entered Sunday Night Football and completely torched the Dallas Cowboys in a 42-10 week five victory. Brock Purdy threw four touchdowns on the night with George Kittle catching three of them while hauling in three receptions for 67 yards and fullback Kyle Juszczyk also caught a receiving touchdown while catching four receptions for 26 yards. The run game was alert and active as both Christian McCaffery and Jordan Mason combined for 120 rushing yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns on the night. The 49ers have once again shown the NFL why they have arguably the best offense in the league in a statement victory over the Cowboys. Good luck to any opposing defense trying to slow them down!
Seattle Seahawks: Bye week
Seattle’s offense has great playmakers and Pete Carroll knows how to make the best with who he has round him.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Bye week
Baker Mayfield and the Bucs offense has been quite the surprise in the NFL. They need to continue playing well if they want to win the NFC South.
Tennessee Titans: D+
The Titan’s offense looked stale as Ryan Tannehill completed 23 passes for 264 yards, threw one interception on the day, and was sacked once. Derrick Henry rushed for 43 yards on 13 carries while the Titans ground game was held to under 90 rushing yards all game by the Colts defense. DeAndre Hopkins led the Titans in receiving yards with eight receptions for 140 yards on the day. The Titans offense needs to wake up and score more touchdowns with talent like Hopkins on the team. The only touchdown scored by Titans the offense was from Tyjae Spears who rushed for 34 yards on seven carries. If the Titans continue to play with this much lackluster, they can become irrelevant in the AFC South while teams like the Colts, Jaguars and rebuilding Texans continue moving forward.
Washington Commanders: D+
The Commanders fell flat in a shocking week five 40-20 upset loss to the bottom-feeding Chicago Bears. Sam Howell threw two touchdowns and one interception in the loss. The Commander’s ground game was not there as the Bears only had 29 rushing yards on 10 carries. Logan Thomas and Curtis Samuel both caught the Commander’s only touchdowns on the night and combined for 15 receptions for 142 yards. The Commanders need to get the ground game reignited otherwise opposing defenses will shut them down on the ground for weeks to come. The passing game is still there, but needs to make more plays otherwise the Commanders will be a bottom-feeder in the NFC East.
