The Dallas Cowboys have been struggling so far this season, and being the most popular team in the NFL aside from the Chiefs, their struggles have been brought to the forefront of the national media.
The team has needed help at multiple positions this season, and the NFL trade deadline is today. According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the team is “all in” this season, so they decided to address their 3-5 record.
Earlier this morning, news broke that the Dallas Cowboys traded for a WR2 they acquired from the Carolina Panthers. The team traded a fourth-round pick in exchange for Panthers receiver Jonathan Mingo.
While Jerry Jones may feel pretty good about the trade made to help Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lamb, it’s clear that not all general managers are proud of what the Cowboys gave up for Jonathan Mingo. According to Jane Slater, one unnamed NFL GM noted something interesting about the trade.
Not Everyone Is Impressed With The Dallas Cowboys’ Trade For Jonathan Mingo
The unnamed GM noted that the Cowboys probably gave up too much for the former Panthers pass catcher. “Comp is too much… like way too much. Basically, a net 5th,” the GM told Slater.

It should be noted that the Dallas Cowboys are currently ranked second in the NFL in passing yards per game. The team had other things to check off the list before they went out and got Mingo.
So far in his NFL career, Mingo has only played one full season, the 2023 season, which was his first NFL season. He has yet to hit the 500-yard mark, and through nine games this season, he has 121 yards and zero touchdowns. It’s unlikely he will hit the 400-yard mark by the end of the season.
While Mingo may not add much to the team’s passing game, it’s clear that they have to do way more to get the season on track. However, we will see if Mingo can make an impact in the Cowboys’ week 10 matchup at home against Philly.
