If it was up to John Mara, every NFL player would have no option in getting vaccinated. However, the Giants’ co-owner said, the NFLPA wouldn’t go for that.
“I’d prefer that everybody be vaccinated,” Mara said Tuesday in his annual training camp media briefing. “I would’ve preferred that it would’ve been mandatory for players to get vaccinated. But the players’ association did not share that view, so we are where we are, which is not a bad spot to be in. … Obviously, I’d like it to be 100 percent [of players vaccinated], because I think it’s the right thing to do.”
As far as his team goes, the Giants has a vaccination rate of “well over” 90 percent. And every non-player is fully vaccinated.
Mara added the Giants will not be forcing fans to show proof of vaccination to attend games. Another possibility is enforcing mask wearing in indoor portions of MetLife Stadium.
“As of right now, there’s no plans to [only allow vaccinated fans to attend games], but you know, if you asked me that question again in a week or two, I may give you a different answer,” Mara said. “That’ll depend on our discussions with the governor’s office and further guidance from the CDC and other health organizations. I think it’s a fluid situation.”
