The future of the NFL can be very different a few years from now, and the Denver Broncos want to be on the right side of history.
NFL teams have proposed a total of nine rule changes in the offseason, and the Denver Broncos have suggested the league borrow the Alliance of American Football’s revision of onside kickoffs where it allows teams the chance to go for an onside conversion where if a team is down by 17 or more points, or trailing with five or fewer minutes left in the game, they can attempt an onside conversion following a touchdown with a 4th-and-12 play from their 28-yard line.
The “fourth-and-15” alternative to the onside kick seemingly has a shot to pass at this week’s owners’ meeting, and that was because Giants owner John Mara revealed to reporters that he is the only member of the competition committee opposed to the proposal.
For the new rule to come to past, at least 24 owners would have to vote for it. Unfortunately, just like Mara, we have a bunch of old school owners who can sometimes be afraid of change and want to keep things the way they are, no matter how terrible they can be.
