New York’s teams will have a significant impact on tonight’s NFL Draft, with both teams selecting within the top six. Last year they were in a similar situation, with the Giants selecting second overall and the Jets third.
As we all remember, the Giants opted against taking Eli Manning’s successor and drafted Penn State star Saquon Barkley. All he did in his first season was win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and make the Pro Bowl behind a wretched offensive line.
With the very next pick, the Jets selected USC quarterback Sam Darnold, who had his moments, both good and bad, during his first season. But the future looks bright, and with their quarterback position seemingly solidified, the Jets thought tonight would be a good time to thank the Giants for passing on Darnold in favor of a running back:
Judging by the Giants’ response, it doesn’t seem as though they are regretting their choice.
I’m not sure who will get the last laugh in the long run, but the Giants definitely win this round.
