Just in case New York Giants fans didn’t feel terrible enough about finding out that Odell Beckham Jr. was traded to the Cleveland Browns, their GM decided to add more salt to the wounds.
On Monday, Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman spoke with the media for the first time since trading the star wide receiver to the Browns for two draft picks and safety Jabrill Peppers.
Gettleman explained that it was never really in his intentions to trade Beckham, but the Browns just simply gave him an offer he could not pass up.
While Gettleman defended the haul he got for Beckham, he also didn’t really deny the fact that the decision was just purely football related. He was asked if whether off-field issues were a factor as well, and his reply was, “Obviously there’s a lot of stuff that factors in.”

During that conference call, Gettleman explained that the Giants have “positions to fill” and that the Beckham trade will allow them to do that. Positions like quarterback, wide receiver and edge rusher, but that would make more sense if they just didn’t trade OBJ, allow defensive end in Olivier Vernon to walk away, and then pay $5 million in a roster bonus to keep an aging Eli Manning.
What makes it worse is that the team never even considered moving on from Eli Manning and upgrading the starting QB position this offseason.
Amazing.
Also, if you dare to try and ask what his plan is going forward, you can just forget about it.
