It’s been a rough go for former teammates of Gerald McCoy.
Tragedy struck the NFL again this week as Mike Williams, a former wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills, reportedly died on Tuesday at the age of 36 after a steel beam fell on his head at a construction site.
Williams was a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs during his six-year NFL career. During his career, he made 223 receptions, scoring 26 touchdowns with 3,089 receiving yards.
Taking to X on Tuesday, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammate Gerald McCoy was emotional thinking about not only the death of Mike Williams, but also three other former teammates who all failed to make it to age 40.
“Man this killing me man, 4 of my former teammates gone, Teo, Geno, V-Jack, and now Mike. Nobody seen 40…………. Post football ain’t no joke man. Y’all be thinking we’re superheroes and we be tryna tell y’all we are humans just like everybody else,” McCoy wrote.
The other teammates he is referring to are Geno Hayes, who died in 2021 of liver disease, Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, who started 26 games for the Bucs at defensive end in 2012-13, died at age 30, and Vincent Jackson who died at 38 in 2021.

Williams had one of the best rookie seasons in Bucs history in 2010. After retiring in 2016, he moved into construction, and died in an accident on a building site on Tuesday night.
We send our thoughts and prayers to all the families of these players as well as their friends who are also hurting from these tragic incidents.
