There was plenty of frustration to go around in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ ugly 30-7 season opening loss at home to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon.
The woeful performance in the passing game, however, certainly stands out the most. Kenny Pickett was intercepted twice and took five sacks, while the receiving duo of Diontae Johnson and George Pickens combined for just eight catches.
As noted by Arye Pulli, Pickens “liked” a fan’s comment on Instagram that referenced the Steelers’ failures to get the ball to the second-year wideout:
According to Biran Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pickens made a quick exit from the locker room following Pittsburgh’s loss. The 22-year-old Pickens finished with 36 yards in Sunday’s disappointing outing.
The Steelers will host the Cleveland Browns (1-0) on Monday night next week.
