The last thing the New York Jets need during training camp is injuries to key players.
That is exactly what happened when WR Garrett Wilson suffered an injury while pursuing a 25-yard pass down the left sideline.
Wilson, who was the Jets’ first-round pick and the 10th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, was being covered by cornerback D.J. Reed when the highly-regarded receiver was shaken up during the rep. Wilson jogged gingerly off the field toward a member of the team’s training staff.
“We were just checking out his ankle. All indications are that he’ll be okay. We’re just going through procedure,” said head coach Robert Saleh following Thursday’s preseason practice in Florham Park. “It’s not something, I don’t think, we’re concerned about.”
In 17 games last season, Wilson set Jets rookie records with 83 receptions and 1,103 receiving yards before winning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

After years of being the subject of clever jokes and ridicule, the New York Jets are a team that has been constructed to compete for a Super Bowl. Aside from having Aaron Rodgers behind center, the team surely needs Wilson to be just as good as he was in his rookie year. That starts with him staying healthy.
The Jets finished the 2022 season with a 7-10 record as the team started four quarterbacks during the course of the year, including Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike White, and Chris Streveler. The acquisition of Rodgers is definitely a huge help for what’s to come in 2023.
