Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew is a fascinating guy that proved he would go to extreme lengths to make sure things go his way.
Last week, Minshew revealed the insane story where he stated he smashed his hand with a hammer in an effort to get a medical red shirt so he could play another year of ball during his first year at East Carolina University.
He was asked about that moment on Wednesday and even he had to admit that it was a ‘pretty dumb’ idea.
“It didn’t work, I guess, fortunately. I mean… looking back, it was pretty dumb,” Minshew told reporters on Wednesday. “Believe it or not, breaking your hand is pretty dumb.”
“I always tell people [when they ask], ‘what would you do to play more ball?’ … damn near anything.”
Minshew totaled 4,779 passing yards and 38 touchdowns in his final year at Washington State, but it when it came time for the Draft, he found himself watching nine quarterbacks go off the board before the Jaguars called his name with the 178th overall pick.
Despite that, he still became one of the very first QB’s to see action in Week 1 after Nick Foles went down with an injury. The rookie has not disappointed as he is producing a 110.6 quarterback rating in three games that ranks seventh in the NFL.
