Gardner Minshew is notorious for trying to do everything to save money.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback still drives a car from 2011. That is despite him earning just under $5.2 million since entering the NFL in 2019, and he’s due to make $3.5 million in his first season with the Colts.
ESPN published a look at the former Washington State star that dove into many topics that included the 2011 Acura his parents gave him for high school graduation as well as sleeping habits before he became a star in college.
After transferring to Pullman in 2018, the former East Carolina QB picked up a mattress and boxspring from the side of a dumpster and then spent $5 on a side table and $10 on a dresser.
After this season, Minshew will have earned more than $8.7 million in the NFL.
Minshew seems like one of those guys who will never see himself on “Broke” if ESPN ever decides to bring it back.
Signing with the Colts means Minshew reunites with former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who took the head coaching job with the Colts following Philadelphia’s Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Minshew, a sixth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Washington State, played in five total games for the Eagles this past season as a backup to Jalen Hurts. Minshew was acquired from the Jaguars in exchange for a conditional 2022 sixth-round draft pick ahead of the 2021 season.
Minshew had 663 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions with a passer rating of 83.4 in the 2022 season.
