Gardner Minshew is doing his best to stay away from the toilet in order to improve his chances to fight for the starting quarterback job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Though 2021 No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence is expected to start for Jacksonville from Day 1 this season, Minshew is still going to camp as if it’s an open competition by doing something very…interesting.
“I’ll say this man, in preparation for the competition, I haven’t taken a shit in weeks,” Minshew recently said during an appearance on Green Light with Chris Long (via Jamal St. Cyr of WJXT4). “Because number two isn’t an option for me. Number two is not an option.”
It’s a great mindset to have, but unless an injury happens to Lawrence, Minshew might not see the field all season long in 2021.
It was in 2019 when he started 12 games as a rookie, throwing for 21 touchdowns against six interceptions. The 25-year-old was in and out of the lineup in 2020, starting just eight games and leading the Jaguars to victory in only one of them.
Trade rumors have followed him all off season, but he remains on the team.
