Former teammates of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts have spoken about the player’s inclination for spitting motivational quotes.
Since becoming a starter in Philly, Hurts has led the Eagles to two Super Bowls, which has made him immensely popular. As such, people listen when he speaks.
He’s now famous for dropping one-liners and seems to outdo himself with every one.
The Athletic recently delved into Hurts’ communication methods by reaching out to some of his former college teammates and found out that he’d been speaking that way before he was in the NFL.
According to the piece they published, sitting through a speech from an author during his time at Oklahoma left a significant impression on him.
“When Jalen Hurts was the quarterback at Oklahoma, author Damon West spoke to the football team. West’s speech revolved around a carrot, an egg and a coffee bean. He explained that when you put all three in boiling water, the carrot softens and the egg hardens, but the coffee bean spreads to the rest of the water, getting stronger and impacting what’s around it.”

Jalen Hurts Has Been Speaking That Way For A While
Caleb King-Kelly, a former Sooners teammate, told the publication the story was not lost on Hurts.
“It was just Jalen,” he said. “Like, sure, it’s a good story, but Jalen? Dude was like, ‘I’m keeping that forever!’ These Jalen-isms, he’s always been this way.”
Patrick Fields, another former teammate, agreed that it’s just how Jalen talks, but the way he views life.
“It’s just the way he talks. But even deeper than that, it’s more so the way he looks at life. I think it philosophically shapes the way he does everything,” Fields said.
The former Oklahoma and Alabama QB is set to play the Kansas City Chiefs in another Super Bowl.
He will need all the motivation he can get after losing to the AFC champs, who are desperate to win a third straight title and will likely have a few more catchy phrases for the media, no matter what the outcome of the game is.
Jalen Hurts isn’t the only Eagles star leaning on words for motivation. Wide receiver A.J. Brown was recently spied reading a self-help title on the bench during a game, and it turns out it’s something he does all the time.
