Kerryon Johnson had an idea that he put on Twitter that went insanely viral over the weekend.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, the free-agent running back proposed that players who go undrafted be allowed to return to college if they have eligibility remaining. As you know, under the current rules, players must forego eligibility to enter the draft if they’re underclassmen.
“Idk if anyone else thinks this but Undrafted players should be allowed to go back to college if they still have eligibility left… thoughts?” Johnson wrote.
The reactions to this tweet varied as many argued that college players should be able to do anything they want while others argued that it would be hell for the program they left as they would have to wait to recruit incoming players if the undrafted ones decided to ocme back at a later date.

After selecting players in the NFL Draft over the previous three days, the league’s 32 teams started adding other players from state high schools and colleges by signing them as undrafted free agents.
The UDFAs will get to work with drafted players and prospects invited to participate on a tryout basis at each team’s rookie minicamp, which can be held in May.
Johnson presents an interesting change, but it is not likely to ever happen.
Johnson joined the Lions as a second-round choice in the 2018 NFL Draft. Healthy enough in 2020 to play in all 16 games, Johnson carried only 52 times for 181 yards as the Lions turned to rookie first-round draft pick D’Andre Swift.
Johnson was waived by the team and signed to the Eagles practice squad in December.
