Earlier this week, we found out that Frank Gore was returning to the NFL for a 16th season after he signed a 1-year deal with the New York Jets.
Gore and Darren Sproles were the last two running backs standing from the 2005 draft class. While Sproles retired at the end of the 2019 season, Gore has decided to continue on at age 36.
As soon as the news hit that Gore was coming back — Sproles joked that he might want to come out of retirement.
“I’m telling you this, the way Frank is still going right now makes me want to go again!” Sproles texted NFL.com’s Jim Trotter. “We’re both the Class of 2005 and we both wanted to outlast the backs from our class that went before us.”
Sproles did clarify that he was not serious about coming back.
Gore spent 2019 with the Buffalo Bills, running for 599 yards and two touchdowns while splitting time with rookie running back Devin Singletary.
Among his accomplishments was him surpassing Barry Sanders for third on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 15,347 yards.
