Former star running back Frank Gore is returning to one of his former NFL teams with a new position in the front office.
Malki Kawa, the President and CEO of First Round Management, announced in a congratulatory tweet that Gore has joined the 49ers’ front office. ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that Gore will be working as as a Football Advisor for the club.
Gore was drafted in the third round (65th overall) by the 49ers in 2005. He spent his first 10 seasons with the organization and helped them to three NFC Championship Game appearances (2011 to 2013) and a trip to Super Bowl 47.
He left San Francisco as the franchise’s all-time leader in rushing yards (11,073). Gore also for the Indianapolis Colts from 2015 to 2017, the Miami Dolphins (2018), the Buffalo Bills (2019) and New York Jets (2020).
Gore retired third on the NFL’s all-time rushing yards leaderboard with 16,000 behind only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726). Gore’s 81 rushing touchdowns also place him in a tie with Ottis Anderson for 19th all-time.

Gore fell just short of winning a championship with the 49ers as a player, but he’ll have his fair share of opportunities to help the organization win that long-awaited sixth championship. The 49ers have reached three of the last four NFC Championship Games, and they’ll enter 2023 as one of the prime contenders to win it all.
