It looks like the Kansas City Chiefs are set to bring back not one, but two key players from their Super Bowl 54 and 57 championship teams who departed in the offseason.
On Wednesday afternoon, Kansas City re-acquired speedy wideout Mecole Hardman via trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, it sounds like three-time Pro Bowler Frank Clark is also set to return following a short-lived absence.
Per a report from Carrington Harrison, Clark will do a physical at Kansas City’s team facility on Thursday night. This strongly indicates that the 30-year-old will be returning to the Chiefs just a few days after he was released by the Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs released Clark in a cap-saving move following their Super Bowl 57 victory. He proceeded to sign a one-year deal with the archrival Broncos, but Clark was released after appearing in just two games, where he recorded zero sacks.
Kansas City acquired Clark in a 2019 blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks. He essentially replaced fellow star pass-rusher Dee Ford, who was traded to the San Francisco 49ers as part of Kansas City’s overhaul on defense.
In his first four seasons with the Chiefs (58 games), Clark recorded 23.5 sacks, one interception, seven pass defenses and six forced fumbles. In 12 playoff games for the Chiefs, he racked up 10.5 sacks to go along with a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
