The Denver Broncos are reportedly set to either trade or release a defensive end who joined them in the offseason.
Frank Clark, a two-time Super Bowl champion, signed with the Broncos this year after a four-year stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. But it appears his tenure in Denver is already coming to an end.
Clark has agreed to take a pay cut that will have his $3.5 million base salary lowered to the $841,000 minimum this season, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo. It’s now understood that the parties could be headed toward a split as he has returned $1.679 in base pay.
Garofolo notes that, while the three-time Pro Bowl DE’s future with the team is fluid, he is not expected to play against his former team on Thursday night because of an illness.
The 30-year-old registered 4.5 or more sacks between 2016-2022, having represented both the Seattle Sonics and Chiefs in that period. But he hasn’t been as effective for the 1-4 Broncos this season, with the team ranked No. 32 defensively.
Clark has made two tackles with no sacks, having played in two of Denver’s first five games.

The Broncos signed the former Michigan star with the intention of adding a top pass rusher to their defense but, following Randy Gregory’s trade, it appears Clark is set for a similar move, especially as his salary will not pose a problem to interested teams.
