All of those Deshaun Watson trade rumors turned out to be just that: rumors that mounted to absolutely nothing when it was all said and done. The Miami Dolphins did not trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
The Dolphins did due diligence on Watson and had conversations with the Texans, but Miami’s owner Stephen Ross had too many worries about his mounting legal issues and made the final decision to not move forward.
Less than two months after Watson’s trade request, the first of 23 lawsuits was filed against him. There are 22 active lawsuits against Watson with allegations of sexual assault or sexually inappropriate behavior during massage sessions.
FS1’s Joy Taylor was extremely upset about the whole process because it has now left Tua feeling unwanted as he had to deal with this for much of the season. “The Dolphins completely shattered any confidence in Tua and have nothing to show for it,” she tweeted, admonishing the team for not squashing the trade rumors during an already tough year.
Watson’s trade request came less than six months after the quarterback signed a four-year, $156 million extension with the Texans that keeps him under contract through the 2025 season.
After skipping the Texans’ offseason workouts, Watson reported to training camp in July to avoid being fined $50,000 per day.
