Veteran NFL safety Deshazor Everett has been given a three-month house arrest sentence over a fatal car accident case from December.
The news was reported on Thursday by Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. Everett pleaded guilty to reckless driving in July.
On Dec. 23 of last year, Everett was involved in a fatal car crash in Loudoun County, Virginia. His girlfriend, Olivia Peters, tragically died in the accident. According to TMZ, Everett was going twice over the legal 45 MPH speed limit at the time of the crash.
ESPN’s John Keim reported that Everett’s driver’s license will also be suspended for six months. On top of that, Everett is required to complete 100 hours of community service, and he must pay a fine of $2,500.
Everett was hospitalized after the car accident with injuries that were deemed non-life threatening. He was released from the hospital four days later.
After going undrafted in 2015, Everett signed with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He never actually played a game with the franchise and wound up joining the Washington NFL club later that year.

As a rookie, Everett appeared in 11 games and finished with 16 tackles. Washington went on to surprisingly win the NFC East division, but they were ousted by the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round.
The 6-foot-tall defensive back spent seven seasons with the Commanders, who released him in March of this past year. He played 89 total games (17 starts) and recorded 170 combined tackles, 11 pass defenses, two interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles.
His most productive season with Washington came in 2017. That year, Everett made eight starts and finished with five pass defenses, one forced fumble and 62 combined tackles.
The 30-year-old Everett played college football at Texas A&M for four seasons from 2011 to 2014.
