One of the NFL’s top pass-rushers of his era isn’t ready to call it quits just yet.
Two-time Super Bowl champion Jason Pierre-Paul is hoping to play again and is even open to joining a contending team’s practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
After a four-year run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pierre-Paul signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022. Pierre-Paul had three sacks, one interception and five pass defenses in 14 contests.
The three-time Pro Bowler helped the New York Giants to a Super Bowl 46 championship in the 2011 season, where he posted a career-high 16.5 sacks. The three-time Pro Bowler won his second ring with the Bucs in 2020, recording 9.5 sacks, six pass defenses and four forced fumbles that year.
Pierre-Paul missed five games in the 2021 season and saw his production decline as a result, as he finished the year with just 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble. The Bucs’ Super Bowl championship defense ended at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.
JPP’s big-game experience and career accolades would make him a worthwhile pickup for any playoff contender. He’s not a full-time starter at this phase of his career, but Pierre-Paul could at least be a useful mentor and rotational player.
