Ryan Tannehill has finally found at least one player who has his back.
The Tennessee Titans quarterback has been criticized by former NFL players for saying it isn’t his job to mentor 2022 third-round pick and quarterback Malik Willis.
“We’re competing against each other, we’re watching the same tape, we’re doing the same drills,” Tannehill explained. “I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him, but if he learns from me along the way, then that’s a great thing.”
He has now found a friend on his side.
Former Titans tight end Jonnu Smith took to Twitter to defend Tannehill’s comments.
“It’s a highly competitive league folks. I’m sure lil homie know that and if he didn’t then he doesn’t belong. Ryan one of the best teammates I’ve been around at any level and he didn’t ‘mentor’ me but I dam sure learned a lot from him,” Smith wrote.

Willis out of Liberty was arguably the best quarterback in the draft, but there was a lack of need at the position among NFL teams this year so he fell to the third round.
Smith had an underwhelming season in 2021 with the Patriots and he’s looking to quickly turn things around for 2022.
