Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch is set to attend the beginning of a trial in Las Vegas this Wednesday following an arrest dating back to 2022, per ProFootballTalk.
Lynch, a five-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion who spent most of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, was taken into custody after being found asleep at the wheel of a parked car near the Vegas Strip in August of said year.
According to a police report, he refused to take a breathalyzer test and was forced to hand over a blood sample, with the test determining he had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, which is more than twice the legal limit.
Lynch’s attorneys argue that his car was parked in a safe position and was not being operated so he should have never been charged with any driving offense.
The former RB pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run charge during his playing days (2008) and was also arrested for DUI in 2012. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving.
As for this most recent case, it does seem unfair to be charged with DUI without actually driving. But having access to his keys while in the driver’s seat could amount to such, the way the law sees it.
