Terrible news from the NFL world as former Raiders first-round pick D.J. Hayden was among six people killed in a crash in downtown Houston.
According to reports, the crash took place at around 2 am on Fannin Street near the Gulf Freeway, when one vehicle sped through a red light. Hayden was only 33-years-old.
The then-Oakland Raiders took Hayden with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played four years with the Raiders, and also spend time with the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars. He last played in the NFL in 2021, as a member of the Washington Football Team’s practice squad.
Hayden was said to be with three other former Houston Cougars. A report from Barstool Coogs states that they were hit by a drunk driver. They were all likely in town for Houston’s game against the Cincinnati Bearcats tonight.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Hayden and the other victims of this terrible tragedy.
