Since he isn’t currently employed as an NFL head coach, the usually quiet and secretive Bill Belichick is free to speak his mind however he wishes.
Three months ago, Bill Belichick and New England Patriot owner Robert Kraft announced they were parting ways after 24 years together. Surprisingly, Belichick was passed over in the latest NFL head coach hiring cycle, and the Atlanta Falcons were the only team to interview the six-time Super Bowl-winning HC.
Belichick had one of his first post-Patriots public appearances on Wednesday when he appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show.” During his interview, Belichick revealed that leaked information about the NFL Draft isn’t exactly truthful or “accurate” until about 12 hours beforehand:
“At this point in time, a little over a week from the first round, I think teams are probably starting to really get things pulled together now. There’s just a ton of information that comes in during March and April when all your scouts are out…
As you get closer to draft day, sometimes teams get closer to figuring out what they’re going to do. There’s information that can leak out of the organizations…I think it’s a little early for that, but when you get into the last 12 or less hours before the draft, sometimes that information can be very, very accurate and helpful.”
It’s not rare for NFL GMs to publicly reveal their draft plans. Today, Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters stated that the team plans to keep the second overall pick. The Patriots hold the No. 3 pick, and de facto GM Eliot Wolf added as well that his team will listen to offers for that selection.

And just a few weeks ago, Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort said that the club was open to dealing the No. 4 selection.
Bill Belichick Will Likely Return To The NFL In 2024
Many football fans and analysts were stunned to see Bill Belichick get snubbed in the 2024 head coaching hiring cycle. But one can only assume that the 72-year-old won’t be passed over for a second straight year.
He’ll be 73 years of age next year, but Belichick hasn’t at all lost the passion to coach. If he had it his way, Belichick would have likely remained head coach of the Patriots instead of “parting ways” with the organization.
Belichick is the greatest head coach in NFL history. He’s a defensive genius and championship culture builder with eight rings in his back pocket. Surely, one of the 32 teams will wan Belichick as their next head coach in 2025.
