A former NFL referee is openly admitting that an officiating crew screwed up badly on a penalty call they made late in the Bucs’ win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Tom Brady was unable to connect on a deep pass to Mike Evans in the fourth quarter, but officials bailed Tampa out by throwing a flag and calling defensive pass interference. There was certainly contact, but the call had many fans who were watching up in arms.
Former NFL official Terry McAulay admitted on Twitter afterwards that this was a huge mistake that never should’ve been called.
“This is not defensive pass interference. The receiver creates the contact. It is especially noteworthy given what was not called late in regulation on the Buffalo 3rd & 2 play,” he tweeted.
Not only did the Bills get screwed here, but it happened again later on when they failed to call pass interference on a potential game-winning touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs.
