Some veterans can be savages when it comes to rookie hazing. Even the GOAT, Tom Brady, has a reputation for being pretty cruel to the league’s newcomers.
During a recent episode of “The Pivot Podcast,” New York Jets first-round pick Garrett Wilson joined former NFLers Fred Taylor, Channing Crowder and Ryan Clark to discuss a variety of topics. At one point, rookie hazing came up, and the three vets tried to give Wilson an idea of exactly what he was in for.
Wilson mentioned to the crew that the Jets’ wide receivers had set up a rookie dinner for him. The former Ohio State star said he was looking forward to it and thought it would be “cool.” That’s when Taylor, Crowder and Clark broke the bad news to him.
Taylor quickly informed Wilson that he could be looking at a $75,000 tab, to which Wilson replied, “They ain’t doin’ me for 75K.” Crowder told the Jets wideout that he won’t really have a choice, before Taylor shared a story about Tom Brady ordering some expensive wine on a rookie’s tab, taking a sip, and leaving.
“When I was in New England, the entire team went out on the rookies — if it’s ten or 12 rookies, whatever it might be in that class. All I know is that bill would come back like fifty-, sixty-thousand, because Tom [Brady] would come in there and buy a three-, four-, five-thousand dollar bottle of wine and take one sip, put it down, and say goodnight.”
When Tom Brady orders a $5,000 bottle of wine and you’re one of his wide receivers, you pay for it. End of story…

I’m not so sure Zach Wilson is getting the same treatment in New York just yet. So hopefully Wilson’s tab will be a little smaller than what Brady and the Patriots were racking up back in Foxborough.
