Charlie Frye has landed a job back in the college ranks where he first made his name. According to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, the former NFL quarterback has landed an offensive coordinator gig.
“FAU is hiring Charlie Frye as the school’s offensive coordinator. Frye is a former NFL quarterback, NFL QB coach and worked at various high schools in Florida. He worked at University if Florida as director of player development,” he reported on Monday.
“Frye is expected to be FAU’s play caller.”
The 41-year-old played college football at Akron.
Charlie Frye was a third-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2005. Being drafted in the third round often gives a player the ability to avoid the bust tag. However, during that particular draft, he was only the fourth quarterback selected.
For his career, he completed 419 of 677 passes for a 61% completion percentage. He threw for 4,154 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions.
