Blake Proehl may have found his calling.
The former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, who is also the son of longtime Panthers receiver Ricky Proehl, earned his way to Hollywood on the ABC reality show American Idol.
Blake Proehl performed “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young for judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie and he absolutely crushed it.
Proehl received applause from all three judges and praise following his audition.
“If you will allow us to be your coaches, you’re gonna be top 10,” said Perry.
“I wrote one thing down that stood out. Natural,” Richie said.
He was so good that Katy Perry started crying.

During the audition round, the Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver also spoke at length about his short-lived football career.
Afterward, Perry would ask for his autograph as she clearly believes he will be going far in his singing career.
Proehl played football for East Carolina University as a wide receiver before he became an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. He spent the majority of his time on either the practice squad or injured reserve.
While rehabbing his injury, Proehl discovered his love of music and released his first single in 2022 titled “Falling Into You.”
He is not retired and could end up getting a futures contract and a shot to make a 53-man roster during training camp.
